So let not an unreasonable fear detract from the beautiful and the  amazing journey of pregnancy.

A home pregnancy test detects the presence of hormone hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotropin) found in the urine of pregnant women. This hormone was produced by placenta after the fertilized egg implants in the uterus. As hCG increase it amount rapidly, it become detectable in the urine and home pregnancy test should be able to give a positive result. The home pregnancy test has an accuracy of up to 99% and some of the test able to detect pregnancy as early as one week after conception. In order to get the best results, use the morning urine as hCG level is more concentrated.

It is important to remember the following points when performing a home pregnancy test:
- First, in order to detect hCG, wait approximately 10 to 14 days after ovulation taken place because you may have ovulated and conceived later that you thought to get a positive result.

- Second, before taking the test read the package direction carefully because instructions vary with different brand. Different poses different requirement and different form of result. Some require you to urinate in a cup and then, place in small sample into the specimen. Others may require you pee directly onto a stick. However, basically, all home pregnancy test work the same way i.e. measuring the amount of hCG in your urine. In term of displaying results, some show pink or blue lines on the test strip, while others reveal a red plus or minus sign in a window or change the color of the urine sample.
Be aware that the instructions will tell you that the test is not accurate after the stipulated waiting period has passed. In other words, if it says about 5 minutes, but a color change occurs after an hour, the color change does not mean anything. If the test comes back negative, wait a few days, read the directions carefully, and try again.

- Third, try to carryout the pregnancy test with a first morning specimen when your period is at least five days overdue because you are not drinking during the nighttime hours. This is the most accurate time since hCG levels will be the most concentrated. Remember not to drink too much of water before performing the test, as this may dilute the levels of hCG and produce a false negative result.

- Fourth, majority medications will not affect the results of a home pregnancy test. However, if you have been undergoing fertility treatments, these will interfere the results of the tests because they alter the hCG levels in the blood. If you are not sure if medication you are taking will affect the test results or not, consult your doctor or a pharmacist.
There are a few pregnancy tests available in the market like A Mid-Stream Urine Test, Test Strip Urine Test, EPT, Fact Plus, Clear Blue Easy, One Step Be Sure etc.
Don’t be upset If you get a negative result the first time, do try to take the test again, mistakes do happen, which is why some kits come with two tests. You may be testing too early. Wait for a few days more to get a positive result. Read the directions carefully, and try again.
